We are living through very polarised and challenging times. Issues like the climate emergency, international conflict, a global cost of living crisis, and populist governments rescinding basic human rights, might make it easy for us to lose hope in our ability to make a difference. However, in the face of this, English language teaching itself can become an act of resistance.
On 3rd December 2022, IATEFL Global Issues SIG brought together three inspiring critical educators (Akemi Iwasa, Margarita Kosior, and László Hajba) to explore how to actively engage in this struggle with optimism, and the confidence to know that our own classrooms, pedagogies and materials can advance much-needed social change. The event was hosted by GISIG committee members Gergő Fekete and Milena Jakičević.
