GISIG Esther Lucas Scholarship

The scholarship is named in memory of one of the founders of the Global Issues Special Interest Group and aims to assist a teacher to attend the IATEFL 50th anniversary conference in Birmingham in 2016. It is not necessary to be a member of IATEFL to apply for this scholarship.

The award consists of:

  • registration for the GISIG pre-conference event
  • registration for the main conference
  • a year’s membership of IATEFL and of GISIG
  • GBP 520 towards conference costs

To qualify you must:

  • be a practising teacher in any area of education, state or private sector who tries to include global issues topics into your teaching (see http://gisig.iatefl.org )
  • not have attended the IATEFL Annual International Conference before
  • be unable to finance such a trip wholly from your own resources
  • undertake to write a reflective report of your conference highlights by the end of June 2016 for possible publication in the GISIG newsletter

To be considered you must submit:

  • an online speaker proposal on a Global Issues topic by the scholarship deadline of 23rd July 2015
  • a 400-500 word summary of your background in teaching Global Issues and how you feel attending conference will help you in your future teaching
  • a passport size photo (for inclusion in the conference programme and on the scholarship poster if you win, please refer to the Scholarships Overview and FAQs for photo requirements)

The submission deadline 23rd July 2015. Early submissions are very welcome; late submissions will not be considered.

The winners will be informed by Friday 4th September and other applicants by 11th September 2015. Please do NOT contact the IATEFL office about scholarship decisions; the Scholarship Working Party (SWP) will send everyone the results as soon as they are available.
